LIST OF RECENT PIHPSDR CHANGES
==============================
September 2026:
---------------

- Added "sudo apt-get --yes install python3-tk" to LINUX/libinstall.sh so
that the package is installed, ready for piSync, which is part of this
  release.

- VERSION changed to read "v2.42 RC1".

- This RC1 has been tested on Linux Mint v21.3 and v22.1 and Kubuntu
22.04 LTS on Intel/AMD, and also on a Raspberry Pi 500+ running
Debian 12 (bookworm) with KDE Plasma.

- The Ant menu can now be put on the toolbar. A new "Ant Menu" function
(button label "ANT") is available in the Toolbar menu's function
chooser, so the Ant menu opens with a single click instead of going
through Main Menu -> Ant. Existing toolbar layouts are unchanged.

- Fixed bug in the sliders bar: when the window width was set below 800
pixels in the Screen menu, the sliders bar was wider than the window,
which kept the window wider than the selected size while the
panadapter/waterfall resized correctly. For widths below 800 pixels the
sliders are now laid out 3 per row instead of 5, using extra rows as
needed so that the same sliders remain visible and everything fits
within the selected window size. The "Slider Rows" setting and the
  slider assignments are unchanged.

- Fixed bug in the Floating Toolbar: after restarting piHPSDR-Improved the
toolbar buttons came up smaller than the ones in the main window,
because the toolbar height was used before it had been calculated from
the display height. The floating toolbar is now also rebuilt (keeping
its position) when the button height changes, e.g. after changing the
  display size.

- The project is now called "piHPSDR-Improved". All window titles that
said "piHPSDR" (menu and dialog title bars, the floating toolbar, the
main window and remote-client title bars, and the configuration
version warning) now say "piHPSDR-Improved". Internal names such as
the audio/MIDI client names, theme name and property files are
unchanged, so existing configurations keep working.

- Floating Toolbar: the "Menu" and "Hide" buttons now move into the
floating toolbar's window (in a row above the toolbar buttons) while
it is active, instead of staying behind in the main window's VFO
area, so all the controls are reachable in one place. They move back
to their usual spot when the floating toolbar is turned off.

- New graphical installer (piHPSDR-Improved-Installer.py) for Linux: a GTK3 wizard, run with
"python3 piHPSDR-Improved-Installer.py" or by double-clicking it in a file manager, aimed
at users who are not comfortable with the command line. It lets the user
choose GPIO and SoapySDR support, then runs LINUX/libinstall.sh and
"make clean && make" for them, with progress shown live in the window and
a "Launch piHPSDR now" button when done. See README.md.

- Fixed bug in Makefile that deletes the pihpsdr/LINUX/SoapySDR directory
  during a 'make clean'.

- Toolbar: new "Floating Toolbar" option (Display menu) detaches the
toolbar into its own top-level window, showing toolbar row 0 as
8 rows of 2 buttons instead of embedded in the main window. The
reclaimed space is used by the other panels; the sliders area is
unaffected. The floating window's position is remembered across
restarts, and closing it un-checks the option again.

- Toolbar: button width halved, number of buttons per row adapts to the
screen width (8 ... 16 buttons, rightmost is always FNC). New slots
are initially empty ("NONE"). Toolbar menu shows as many slots per
row as the toolbar. Old props files are converted automatically.
Andromeda: 8th function switch now explicitly acts as FNC.

- Bug fix: when compiled with GPIO, every radio (e.g. Hermes Lite 2) was
treated as a G2V2. This showed the "G2 Panel" menu, forced the GPIO
controller to "No Controller" and skipped GPIO initialisation. G2V1/G2V2
are now only detected for an ANAN G2 (Saturn) connected via XDMA.

- RX2 per-band memory: RX2 (VFO-B) now remembers, per band, its
frequency, mode, filter, CTUN (and CTUN frequency), deviation,
bandstack slot and panadapter high/low/step (props: band.N.rx2.*).
RF gain/attenuation is stored for RX2 only if it uses its own ADC.
  On a single-ADC radio (e.g. HL2), a band change on RX2 no longer
changes the gain/attenuation of the shared ADC. RX2 falls back to the
RX1 bandstack for bands it has not used yet.

- Bug fix: changing the panadapter low level by dragging with the mouse
is now stored per band (RX1 and RX2).

- Sliders area: 5 sliders per row (was 3) with narrower labels and a
smaller label font, so all 9 sliders fit into two rows. The maximum
number of slider rows is now 2 (props files with 3 rows are reduced
to 2). The Sliders menu uses the same 5-per-row layout.

- Default radio window size is now 1920x1080 (limited to the monitor
size) if no size is stored in the props file. The splash/discovery
screen keeps its default size of 832x500.

- Splash/main-window logo replaced with the new "piHPSDR Improved" logo,
resized to 155x134 to match the previous logo's footprint. It remains
compiled into the binary as an embedded PNG (src/piHPSDR_logo.c); no
external image file is needed at runtime.
